Why is 85 ethanol so good?
There are loads of reasons why 85 ethanol is such a good fuel, here are a few of them. - It's made from renewable resources
- It's a sustainable fuel supply
- It has a higher octane content, which improves engine performance
- It cleans out all the toxic carbon deposits that regular petrol leaves in your engine
- Your car won't need servicing as often as the oil and spark plugs remain cleaner for longer. Because engine components wont be exposed to as much heat they will last. This is where you save the most money.
- Ethanol has a high oxygen content, so the engine runs cooler and smoother, reducing harsh wear & tear and the cooling system won't be as susceptible to overheating
- Because of the high oxygen content, there's substantially less toxic exhaust emissions
- Less toxic exhaust emissions means a better environment with cleaner, healthier air
- Ethanol is produced in Australia from crops grown by Australians
- The more ethanol we use, the less crude oil we import, reducing our foreign oil defecit
- Ethanol supports Australian jobs, rural and regional communities, and Australian Industry
- Most importantly - it's cheaper than unleaded fuel so you'll save money.
I heard that ethanol can damage engines, is this true? Not if your car is a factory fitted Flex Fuel Vehicle or has had our ethanol conversion unit professionally installed.
Even small blends of ethanol, such as e10, have the potential to do some engine damage unless your car's computer can tell the difference between regular petrol and ethanol blended petrol. Without a conversion unit, your engine has no way to tell what fuel is being used and this is where it can cause problems.
For the safest way to drive with ethanol, our recommendation is to get our conversion unit installed first. Contact us by filling in the form on the home page and we will be in touch to discuss your needs. Why are your conversion units the best? The conversion units are designed and manufactured in Germany, using the latest technology. They have advanced features that other units don't. This is vital for your car's performance and especially for your safety.
Bosch Fueltown are our first Australian authorised ethanol conversion centre. They use state of the art equipment and have automotive specialists we trust to convert cars. As part of the Bosch Repair Network, your ethanol conversion is covered by the 12 months or 20,000 kilometre National Reciprocal Warranty, and Bosch Fueltown's own extended 2 year warranty period. You'll have peace of mind, wherever you travel.
I upgrade my car every two years, so there's no point in getting a conversion. The conversion units are fully transportable, so that when you upgrade your car, the unit can be easily installed into your new car. That's one of the benefits of an ethanol conversion versus an LPG Conversion. The LPG Conversion remains a permanent fixture in the vehicle. Driving on LPG also reduces your cars performance, whereas 85 ethanol increases the performance of your car. An e85 conversion unit can be removed anytime, and it only weighs about 500 grams so you will barely notice it under the bonnet. Will I get the same mileage from e85? E85 is a high performance fuel so you'll need to adjust your driving style to suit. You may have a minimal reduction in fuel consumption. Because e85 cleans your engine, it will run more efficiently. We have customers who have gained extra kilometres driving on e85 as the ethanol cleans out the fuel injectors. 85 ethanol has a natural ability to burn so cool making it the fuel of choice for all motoring applications - from extreme high performance to everyday motoring. The cheapest cost of motoring is the fuel. Costly mechanical repairs and maintenance may be avoided simply because your motor runs so cool and your fuel injectors stay so clean. So if you want to save time and money drive on e85.
What if I'm travelling and can't buy e85? When you have an ethanol fuel conversion, your car becomes a Flex Fuel Vehicle. That means that you can switch between e85 ethanol fuel and petrol. The switch system allows for your engine to reset itself back to it's original setting if you can't fill up with e85. When you do get to an e85 filling station, simply switch back to e85 ethanol fuel. And don't worry, if you do have to put in petrol occasionally, the 85 ethanol will always continue to clean out the toxic carbon that petrol leaves. Don't forget to nominate your town to get an e85 ethanol fuel filling station near you. Doesn't ethanol production use valuable food crops? Most of Australia's ethanol supply is made from molasses which is a by-product of sugar production. It is not a food staple. Australia currently has the world's best production output for biofuel made from algae. Commercial levels of algae can be grown without competing for resources with food crops. The algae grows on non-arable - even arid land without any need for fresh water in cultivation. There is also no need for fertilisers. Growing algae at an industrial scale takes up significantly less land than required by crops to produce the same amount of biofuel.
Holden and Caltex, along with a consortium including the Victorian Government, recently announced plans to build Victoria's first ethanol plant. Using the latest technology, the ethanol can be made from household and commercial waste. This process will also reduce damaging landfill.

What does Murray Carter, Australia's most legendary racing car driver think of e85?
'It's fabulous, it's great for the environment and it's great for my race car. We're lucky that Australia has recognised the importance of this fuel for the environment and regulated it's use for the racing industry. I use it in my Corvette and it hasn't slowed me down a bit.
